Riots in Anderlecht: “Completely unacceptable” for Pieter De Crem

Interior Minister Pieter De Crem called the weekend riots in Anderlecht “totally unacceptable”.

He said on Sunday evening on VTM Nieuws that these riots had nothing to do with the measures against the coronavirus and nothing either with the death of a young man of 19 years Friday. The rioters abused this dramatic event to “create unrest,” he said. On Saturday and Saturday night, riots broke out in Anderlecht after the death on Friday evening of a young man who had fled in the face of a police check. In various parts of the commune, rallies and confrontations with the police took place. A total of around 100 people were arrested.

“It is totally unacceptable,” said the interior minister on VTM Nieuws. “They are troublemakers who used a dramatic incident to create chaos. This attitude has nothing to do with mourning or grief.”

According to him, “no one has an understanding” for the rioters and what happened in Anderlecht. “These are young people who cannot function according to our standards and values.”
