Rinkēvičs: NATO Foreign Ministers’ Meeting succeeds in outlining what the Alliance’s new strategic concept should look like

The meeting of NATO foreign ministers has succeeded in outlining what the alliance’s new strategic concept should look like, said Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs.

He noted that the negotiations on the new Strategic Concept will enable NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to continue what he has started and to prepare a concrete project for discussion.

The Latvian Foreign Minister emphasized that a lot was discussed during the meeting about Russia’s activities, Ukraine and Belarus. The foreign ministers have shown solidarity with the Baltic states in this situation, and there is a political understanding that NATO must support and strengthen its member states, and the political understanding will materialize in the next steps.

“On behalf of the foreign ministers, the NATO Secretary General expressed support for Ukraine and warned of what would happen and what price Russia would have to pay if it directed aggression against the country,” the minister said.

LETA has already written that a meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers will take place in Riga from Wednesday to Thursday, where, in addition to addressing current security challenges, co-operation with partners and the European Union will be discussed, as well as discussions on the Alliance’s new strategic concept.
