Rijkswaterstaat Implements Heat Protocol to Assist Stranded Road Users in the Netherlands

Rijkswaterstaat will set a heat protocol for the whole of the Netherlands on Sunday. This means that road users who break down along the road are helped immediately. The protocol is already in force in a number of provinces on Saturday.

Rijkswaterstaat does not want stranded road users to have to wait in the sun for a recovery company for a long time.

That is why Rijkswaterstaat tries to ensure that they are taken to a place with facilities, such as a petrol station, as quickly as possible during such hot days. “The shade can be sought there and water and other facilities are available.”

Road users are advised to prepare well and to be alert in case of heat. “Bring enough drinking water with you, partly because the concentration can decrease due to heat. In addition, it is also useful to bring an umbrella, which can serve as a parasol if you are waiting safely behind the crash barrier for a road inspector or the recovery company.”

The protocol applies on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
