Twelve alleged right-wing terrorists arrested

After raids in several federal states against a suspected right-wing terrorist group, the Federal Attorney General arrested 12 suspects. NRW Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) comments on the group’s plans.

On Saturday, the first suspects were brought before the judge in Karlsruhe, who are believed to be involved in a suspected terrorist cell. There were raids in six federal states yesterday. The groups are said to have planned conditions similar to civil war.

eThe day after the smashing of a suspected right-wing terrorist cell, the first detainees in Karlsruhe were taken to judges at the Federal Court of Justice (BGH). The demonstrations had started as planned on Saturday morning, said a spokesman for the prosecutor. The investigating judges decide whether the twelve suspects are being held in custody or whether someone needs to be released.

On Friday, the Attorney General had twelve of the 13 suspects arrested. The current investigation had confirmed the suspicion, said the federal prosecutor’s office in Karlsruhe on Friday. All those arrested are Germans and men.

The federal prosecutor assumes that five suspected right-wing extremists have founded the terrorist group and have targeted attacks on politicians, asylum seekers and Muslims. These attacks should have triggered civil war-like conditions – with the aim of “shaking and ultimately overcoming the state and social order of the Federal Republic of Germany”.

The accused had met several times in different casts, it was said. One of them, Werner S., arranged and coordinated these meetings. In addition, the men exchanged views in chat groups and on the phone.

Detainees apparently wanted to raise money and weapons

Eight other detainees are suspected of supporting the terrorist group. They agreed to help with money, to procure weapons and to participate in future attacks, it said.

The searches had taken place at a total of 13 locations in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saxony-Anhalt since the morning hours. At that point, the investigators hadn’t had enough in hand for arrests.
