Riga Festival will start with a Thanksgiving concert, thematic events in the neighborhoods and cultural centers – Cultural and entertainment events – Culture +

The Riga Festival 2020 will begin with Raimonds Pauls’ concert program “My Riga”, which will be a thank you for your selfless and professional work, involving in the restriction and prevention of Covid-19. Employees of Riga institutions – doctors, police officers, social workers, firefighters, land guards and others – have been invited to attend the concert. The concert will feature music created as a special Maestro dedication to Riga, as well as already known and beloved melodies of the composer. Anyone interested will have the opportunity to see the recording of this concert on August 16 on LTV1 at 21.10.

On Friday, residents and guests of the city will be able to enjoy a number of musical events. During the day, the traveling green ball of the 50th season of the Open-Air Museum Fair with Dixieland music will take place in the center and surroundings of Riga. Ancient music performed by soloists and instrumentalists in the concert “Musical Journey to Ancient Riga” will be performed at the “Small Guild” Culture Center, while the VEF Culture Palace will be dominated by the jazz atmosphere of the Orchestra “Riga” concert “Walk along the Jazz History Trails”. The musical evenings of the festival “Riga Jurmala” will create a festive mood in the city, which will be heard in Kronvalda Park from Friday. A festive concert will take place in Mazjumprava manor, events will also take place on Tērbatas vasaras Street, but the Imanta Culture Center will host a drawing theater performance for the whole family “7 tales about Ņukucīte.”

From the first day of the festival, those interested will have the opportunity to enjoy and engage in themed walks. Families with children will be able to go for a longer walk around the Old Town and at the same time participate in an educational game, in which everyone can become a winner and receive an honorable badge of the Old Riga expert. Visitors are also invited to enjoy a virtual cinema walk, during which they will have the opportunity to get to know the places where legendary films have been made and many Latvian and foreign movie stars have been filmed.

As always, there is an opportunity to watch and participate in sports activities at Riga’s birthday celebrations. Everyone will be able to test their athletic skills in endurance exercises and health-promoting competitions in Victory Park at the event “Healthy Riga Healthy Spirit”. Sports fans will have the opportunity to watch competitions in skate park sports with the participation of the most prominent Baltic athletes in the competition “Riga Skate Park Sports Cup 2020”, as well as sympathize with athletes in international competitions in windsurfing “Baltic Challenge Cup”.

Celebrating the capital’s birthday, an exhibition will be on display in the historical center and surroundings of Riga – informative stands “In this place… years ago”, in the windows of the Latvian National Archives you will see the exhibition “Time Car Through Old Riga”, and in Imanta near the cultural center ”.

The organizers of the festival invite the visitors of the events to follow the national restrictions and the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control in relation to the spread of COVID-19. In order to ensure epidemiological safety during the festival, it is possible that not all visitors will be able to participate in any of the events. The organizers also remind that several celebrations are available with free invitations, which limits the number of visitors. Let’s celebrate the holiday responsibly!
