The decision was made by a politician after several party members issued statements to defend “failing ministers in return for additional influence on this one man”.

“When I go into politics, I don’t have high hopes that everything will be fair and good. But I also didn’t expect to be able to put my interests above my own and my people’s interests. Especially in this time of Covid-19 crisis. Political games and interests over people lives – it’s not acceptable for me, “says Mitcherevsky.

He believes that party members are used as a signboard for a company to be called a party.

Mitcherevsky admitted that he had thought about stepping out of the party for some time, so he did not run for the board at the recent party congress.

Mičerevskis still remains a deputy of the Riga City Council and expressed support for Mayor Mārtiņš Staķis, moving forward with the plan to change Riga for the better.

“With my step, I urge people in other parties to act more in accordance with their conscience, rather than to submit to the political games of individual influential cardinals,” Micherevsky concludes.

The party “For the Development of Latvia” points out that Mičerevskis had been moving away from the party’s life and activities for a long time, as well as did not actively attend board meetings and did not express initiatives for the party’s development.

“It seems that the parallel reality lived. We wish Maris good luck in her work in the Riga City Council, we will continue to work ourselves to implement our program and the promises made to the voters,” the party said in a statement.
