Rhein-Ruhr chief planner Mronz “surprised” by IOC recommendation

Essen
The IOC executive recommends Brisbane as the preferred host for the 2032 Summer Games. The Rhine-Ruhr Initiative is to remain in place.

The Rhine-Ruhr Initiative For Olympia 2032 has suffered a setback. On Wednesday evening, the executive of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that Australian competitor Brisbane was the preferred candidate for hosting the Summer Games in eleven years.

Michael Mronz, Initiator of the Rhein-Ruhr-Initiative, reacted disappointed that evening: “” We take note of the IOC’s surprising step to start official negotiations with one of several potential applicants for the 2032 Games at short notice. Like the IOC announced, today’s decision is also due to the strong support of Brisbane by the Australian National Olympic Committee, which unfortunately was not given in the case of Germany. “

IOC: No discussions with DOSB about applications
