Riga, October 21, LETA. The three goals scored in the first five minutes of both halves ensure that RFS footballers enter the semi-final of the “Viensviens” Latvian Cup after winning over “Riga”.
RFS beat Riga by 3: 2 (2: 1).
Already in the seventh minute the result was 2: 0 in favor of the home team. First, Marko Durišičs helped Artūrs Zjuzinam to fall in the penalty area of ”Riga” and Darko Lemajičs in the sixth minute from the penalty kick, replacing the goalkeeper, sent the ball to the right – 1: 0.
In the next minute, another rapid attack ended with Emersona Santanas broadcasting the goal from the left – 2: 0.
In the 11th minute the result could have become 3: 0, when Sedrika Kuadio passes into the penalty area Lemajičs hit the right post.
After 21 minutes, Stefana Miloševiča sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. After the corner kick following the previous episode, Kucher blocked the first shot made by Herdi Prenga, Wesley fell not a moment without the help of the home team, and most likely from the 11-meter penalty kick RFS “saved” Stefan Panic by sending the ball to the goal – 1: 2.

In the 45th minute, Vladimirs Kamešs from “Riga” and Žiga Lipuščeks fell in the fight in the RFS penalty area, but the referee’s whistle was silent.
The fifth minute of the second half also became fateful for “Riga” footballers. After Zjuzina’s pass, Lemajičs hit the ball again in the penalty area – 3: 1.
In the 65th minute, the home team was saved by the goal post from the loss of the goal after a shot from the head by Elvis Stugl, the ball then flew out into the goal.
Ten minutes into the match, the visitors’ central line of defense had to look on as Romāns Debelko dashed through, knocking home 3 – 0 for Kučers.
“Riga” regained one goal already in the first minute of the compensation time, when Kamešs was accurate from the penalty area, but the Latvian champions failed to catch up.
It has already been reported that “Valmiera” beat “Tukums 2000” / TSS at home 1: 0 (0: 0), in Jelgava “Ventspils” after 0: 0 draw in 120 minutes of the game in the 11 meter penalty kick series won “Jelgava” with 4: 3, but “Liepāja” beat Jurmala “Spartaku” in the guests with 3: 1 (1: 0).
The semi-final pair draw will take place on Friday.
In the Latvian Cup, domestic clubs compete not only for the trophy, but also for the right to represent Latvia in the UEFA club tournament.
In the first round, 26 teams from the Latvian second and third leagues participated, two teams automatically qualify for the next round. Thirteen first-round winners, two wild-card recipients, and nine first-league clubs took part in the second round.
Twelve second-round winners took part in the third round, and ten Optibet Premier League clubs joined the six winners in the eighth final.
The final at the Olympic Center “Ventspils” stadium will take place on November 8. The Ventspils Latvian Cup final was hosted for the only time in the 2014/2015 season, when the hosts acknowledged the superiority of “Jelgava” footballers in the final with 0: 2.
In the history of the Latvian Cup, since 1936, 38 different club teams have won the prestigious trophy, but since the restoration of the country’s independence, 12 different teams have raised the cup over their heads.
Since 2017, the winners of the tournament have been presented with a new design and identity trophy.
The current trophy holder is the RFS team, which was with it for the first time in history last year. Last year, the people of Riga only surpassed the most titled cup team “Jelgava” of the last decade in overtime.
The most titled team in the tournament is the non-existent “Skonto”, which triumphed in the tournament eight times from 1992 to 2012.
The Latvian Cup in football was played in one season until 2008, but since 2009/2010 it has been started in the previous season for the next eight years and completed in the spring of next year. Thus, the fourth Latvian participant in the Euroccups was determined only about a month before the start of the new UEFA Europa League season.
