Review: PAW Patrol: Mighty Pups Save Adventure Bay

PAW Patrol is a Canadian children’s series that has been airing on Nickelodeon since 2013. It is made for the little ones and it is therefore not surprising PAW Patrol: Mighty Pups Save Adventure Bay has the same target audience. We started working with this game for you and below you can read whether it is something.

There are of course several games aimed at a younger audience, but with PAW Patrol: Mighty Pups Save Adventure Bay this is obvious, in a good way. The game takes the young player or player by the hand and actually explains how to game. The game starts with a level where you have to walk around and jump a bit while collecting dog treats. It may all be very obvious, but it is really not always clear to a child. The explanation is certainly not an unnecessary luxury.

What is also nice is that the game is completely in Dutch. This not only applies to the texts, but most of the information that comes along is also spoken in Dutch. Even the various items in the menu are provided with speech. You don’t have to be able to read to play the game and that makes it very suitable for small children.

A small disadvantage that the game is for the little ones is that there is not much to do for older children. There is a kind of campaign in which you can do different main missions. You always do this with two different puppies, each with their own specialties. There is a dog for tasks that require strength, a dog that can extinguish a fire and a dog that can fly. The missions often also tell a little story, but it usually doesn’t amount to much. The main missions mainly consist of collecting dog biscuits and basically you just have to do what appears on the screen. That is just a bit boring for older children, but fortunately they are not the target group either. In addition, you are also done with the campaign within a few hours and there is not really a reason to play all missions again.

In addition to the campaign, there are also several mini games to play. These include a dance competition, skipping rope and an obstacle race. They are really mini games, as it often comes down to pressing a few buttons at the right time. The animations of the puppies during these mini games are great fun and the players will have a great time.

PAW Patrol: Mighty Pups Save Adventure Bay is basically just to play alone, but the best option is to do this together with your child. You can go through both the main missions and the mini games together. There really is a bit of a missed opportunity and that is that there is no split screen. This doesn’t really matter for those mini games, but during the campaign you have to constantly wait for the other. If one player wants to go to the left and the other to the right, it just won’t work. It’s not a huge problem, but it would have been easier if you could have gone your own way.

Also a shame are the long loading times between missions. Children generally do not have very good concentration and long loading screens of course do not help. We tried the game on both the Xbox One X and the Xbox Series X, but in the end there wasn’t even that much of a difference. It’s not terribly disturbing, but given the type of game, this wouldn’t really have been necessary.

PAW Patrol: Mighty Pups Save Adventure Bay is much more fun than we initially expected. It is ideal for young gamers who have very little experience with games. It’s all pretty easy and they are really taken by the hand. You are through the campaign within a few hours, which is of course a bit short. Fortunately, there are also a lot of fun mini games that will keep you busy for a while, but the content is a bit on the meager side. It is also nice that you can play this together with someone, unfortunately without a split-screen. If your child is a fan of PAW Patrol and don’t have a lot of experience with gaming yet, then this is a nice title to try.
