Revealing the Facts Many Indonesians Work in Qatar Oil Refineries

Merdeka.com – Professional Ex Qatargas and Qatar Petrolium, Syarian Tampo Djamhur said that many Indonesians work in the oil and gas sector in Qatar. In fact, many of them are experts in operating oil and gas refineries and solving problems in this sector

“Actually, the strength of our people there (Qatar) is the skill in operating the LNG plant, the skill in troubleshooting and problem solving in the plant, that’s our advantage,” said Tampo in a Webinar entitled Professional/CEO Minang in the Past, Present and Future, Jakarta, Sunday (14/3).

As a country with gas reserves number 3 in the world, competition in this sector continues to increase. The number of refineries has also increased over time. This also cannot be separated from the expertise of the Indonesian people who work in the oil and gas sector.

“Thanks to the ability of our people at this refinery, there are many refinery factories that have recruited Indonesians. Take them from Cilegon, Surabaya, Batang and so on, “said this Deputy Director of PT Lumarco Delapan Abadi.

Over time, workers in the oil and gas sector are not only from Indonesia, but from various countries in the world. Even so, not a few Indonesians have positions in oil and gas companies in Qatar.

“Many important positions held by Indonesians there such as supervisior, department head and manager were held by our people,” said Tampo.

“There is even a crew member who is the director of finance in a group (company) in Qatar. This is a crew member of Bana,” he said in Minang language.

Knowledge Transfer

Not only that, Indonesia is also known as a volunteer worker in transferring knowledge to local workers. Because the policy of transferring knowledge from foreign workers in Qatar has existed for decades.

“On the outside, this Indonesian is known to be someone who sincerely teaches others because this is in his work contract,” he said.

It’s just that he regretted that Indonesians were a little behind in running a business in the non-oil and gas sector. The non-oil and gas sector in Qatar is dominated by Filipinos. This is inseparable from the foreign language skills of Indonesians in Qatar.

“Many of our people are in the oil and gas sector, but other sectors are rather rare because of language constraints and this requires good language skills,” he said.

For that, Tampo advised the younger generation to improve their foreign language skills. Apart from language, self-confidence also needs to be improved. Because these two things are the main keys to being successful in working abroad.

“Now this is what we need to improve. This English language skill needs to be improved and self-confidence too, especially abroad,” he concluded. [idr]
