JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – Susi Susanti is the first Indonesian athlete to be able to donate a gold medal at the Olympics.

However, the photo of Susi Susanti’s tears at the 1992 Olympics, did not become a photo headline from Compass Daily which was published on August 5, 1992.

What is the reason?

Since 1952 Indonesia has never once received a gold medal, the best achievement is only the silver medal which was won at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

However, 1992 was a different year because for the first time badminton became one of the sports competed in the Olympics.

Moreover, the condition of Indonesian badminton athletes at that time was in prime condition with several mainstay players such as Alan Budikusuma, Ardy Wiranata, Kusumawardhani and Susy Susanti.

Indonesia then placed very high hopes on this badminton sport.

Even President Suharto left a direct message to Try Sutrisno as the General Chair of PBSI at the time, to bring home a gold medal.

In fact, in previous years the government had never done something similar.
