First trailer: “Return to Silent Hill“
A new trailer has dropped for “Return to Silent Hill,” the long-awaited sequel to the 2006 horror film adaptation of the iconic video game franchise. The trailer debuted today, August 26, 2025, offering a first look at the film’s unsettling atmosphere and characters.
Christophe Gans, who directed the original 2006 film, returns to helm the sequel. Gans also co-wrote the screenplay with Sandra Vo-Anh and Will Schneider. The original “Silent Hill” film, based on the Konami survival horror game, was praised for its faithful adaptation of the source material’s psychological horror elements.
The 2006 film proved a commercial success, grossing $100 million worldwide on a $50 million production budget. It starred Radha Mitchell as rose Da Silva, Sean bean as Chris Da Silva, and Deborah Kara Unger as Cybil Bennett, and centered on a mother’s desperate search for her daughter in the mysterious town of Silent Hill.
Details regarding the plot and cast of “Return to Silent Hill” have been largely kept under wraps, though the trailer hints at a continuation of the unsettling narrative established in the first film. The original game series, created by Keiichiro Toyama, is renowned for its disturbing imagery, complex symbolism, and exploration of themes like guilt, trauma, and redemption.
“Return to Silent Hill” is scheduled for release in cinemas in January.
