Since Tuesday evening, a very large fire has been raging on an industrial estate in Aalten, Gelderland. Because of the thick smoke that passes over the village, the North and East Gelderland Security Region sent an NL-Alert to local residents to close windows and doors.
According to Omroep Gelderland is an interior builder in the building. A spokesperson for the Security Region said no one was in the building when the fire broke out.
Roughly half of the building is on fire, according to the fire department. It will take a few hours before the fire is under control. The surrounding buildings are not at risk. The Ringweg Zuid in Aalten has been completely closed off due to the fire.
There are five fire trucks, two aerial platforms and various water supply vehicles on site. To identify the extent of the smoke nuisance in Aalten, and to measure whether there are harmful substances in the smoke, the fire brigade has deployed two measurement teams.
The smoke causes odor nuisance as far as Winterswijk. The Safety Region says that the odor is annoying, but it is not a direct health hazard.
