A two-story restaurant building collapsed on Saturday morning in the Xianfeng region of China’s Shanxi province, killing at least 17 people, Chinese state media reported.
28 survivors have been rescued from the ruins of the building, seven of them have been seriously injured, and 21 of those rescued have minor injuries, Xinhua reports.
Rescue workers in helmets and face masks continue to search for debris. In total, about seven hundred people are involved in the rescue operation.
The cause of the accident has not yet been determined, but various incidents related to unsatisfactory construction quality are not uncommon in China.
