Residents of Ujan Mas Village, Sungai Are District, South Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency, South Sumatra, find chunks gold which is thought to have pure content in the Are River flow, one of the rafting rivers in the local area.
Local resident Asman (30) in the Are River, said Saturday that the gold was found flowing with the current of the river and then just settling among the rocks.
“Small gold ores, even in the form of gold nuggets, are clearly visible among the rocks,” he said as quoted from Between, Saturday (6/11).
He suspects that the gold ore can be seen, allegedly starting from the activity of dredging sand and river rocks using heavy equipment so that gold comes out of the river surface.
Because the presence of gold in the river has been known for a long time from generations before them, and simple balancing activities have been going on for a long time.
“But over time the activity stopped. When gold there began to be rarely found,” he said.
Then since the gold was found again, the surrounding community began to carry out weighing activities again.
Sutarman (40) added that the time when gold was hard to find, he and his colleagues even did dives to find the precious metal.
“There is a lot of gold in our river. We can’t see it on the surface, we look to the bottom. When there is dredging activity, the gold comes out again,” he said.
Simply weigh it using a simple tool such as a wide cauldron or a special tool made of wood.
The process is the same as the general public looking for gold. Some sand mixed with river stones were taken and then spun in a cauldron with a little water until they found gold.
Although it has been known for a long time, the public does not know the exact content they have found because so far there has been no research or laboratory test.
“It tends to be crowded just looking for it. So we hope there is research on this gold content so that it can be an additional income for the people here,” he said.
