Residents Attack Tourist Attractions, Will PPKM be Extended Again?

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The downward trend in cases of disease due to the corona virus (Covid-19) continues in Indonesia. This means that the implementation of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) implemented by the government has succeeded in lowering the Covid-19 case.

PPKM Java-Bali will end Monday (13/9/2021), while other areas next week. As usual, the government will conduct an evaluation and announce tomorrow, and the PPKM will be extended again, with the possibility of some more easing, or there are areas that level down.

However, the loosening of PPKM by the government has shown a significant impact on the community. The mobility of citizens has increased sharply, if it goes too far, of course, there is a risk of triggering a spike in new cases.

The trend of people driving by driving as seen from the Apple Mobility Index experienced a sharp increase on Saturday (4/9/2021). The index number reached 151.84, the highest since last June 12 or before the PPKM was implemented. Meanwhile, when PPKM was implemented in July, the index dropped to 71.29.

As is known, in the last two weeks there has always been a traffic jam in the Puncak Bogor area. This trend can continue every weekend, especially since the Government has reopened several tourist areas.

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan who is also the Coordinator of the Java-Bali PPKM said the government would conduct trials of 20 tourist attractions in the PPKM level 3 Java-Bali area.

“There will be a trial opening of 20 tourist attractions in the city with level 3 with the implementation of strict health protocols and the implementation of the PeduliLindung application,” Luhut said.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Uno warned that the potential for revenge tourism would continue and be more massive.

People who are already saturated due to their restricted movement in recent months will “invade” tourist attractions. So it is necessary to implement strict health protocols so that there will not be another spike in cases.

“Yes, revenge tourism has been seen at Pangandaran Beach and at Puncak, maybe also at KBB revenge tourism need cooperation, both managers and visitors as well as the community who participate in monitoring,” said Sandiaga to reporters, Friday (10/9/2021).
