A new “giant baby planet” was discovered just a stone’s throw from our earth. But this puzzles researchers.
Researchers at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in New York have now discovered him. The results can be found in the research notes of the American Astronomical Society. It says that the “baby” is 330 light years from our solar system, in cosmic dimensions quite close to Earth. For the US researchers, the planet is “closer to Earth than any other similar young planet that has been found so far”.

The planet with the second name 2MASS 1155-7919 b is a “dark, cool object”. This has 10 times the mass of the gas giant Jupiter, the largest planet in the solar system. A real mystery remains for the researchers, however, how it was able to emerge despite the great distance to its “mother star” and how it got to its current position. Finally, the “baby” circles its five million year old mother at a distance 60 times the distance between the sun and the earth.
