Research Results: Smartphone Sales in 2020 Hit, How This Year?

jpnn.com – Market research firm Gartner forecasts 11.4 percent year-on-year growth in the global smartphone market, with 1.5 billion phones predicted to be sold by 2021.

Smartphone sales took a hit and saw a 10.5 percent drop in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, in 2021 it is expected to return to previous levels as markets re-open with higher expectations from mature markets.

The report also predicts that user demand for 5G smartphones will increase this year, and will represent 35 percent of total smartphone sales by 2021.

According to the Gartner report, smartphone sales in 2021 will recover by achieving 11 percent growth compared to a 10.5 percent decline in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The report said that mature markets in Asia Pacific, Western Europe and Latin America are expected to show their strongest growth between 2020 and 2021.

The total number of smartphones sold globally in 2019 is more than 1.5 billion (1,540,655,000). By 2020, the number will drop to more than 1.3 billion (1,378,719,000).

Gartner predicts that by 2021, sales will again increase to 1.5 billion (1,535,358,000).
