Research ‘Christmas drink’ also examines other British government meetings

An investigation into the controversial christmas drink in the official residence of the British Prime Minister, about which there was great commotion yesterday, also focuses on two previous meetings of the British government.

The investigation by Cabinet Secretary Simon Case now focuses on two suspected parties at 10 Downing Street on November 27 and December 18 last year, and a party at the Ministry of Education on December 10, 2020. At the time of those meetings, strict corona measures were being prepared.

If evidence of possible criminal offenses emerges during the investigation, the investigation will be handed over to the police

Prime Minister Johnson yesterday announced an investigation into the Christmas drink on December 18. The reason was a leaked video showing how the then spokesperson Allegra Stratton jokingly prepares a press conference about that gathering.

Government under fire

The government is under fire for the video in question; the drink took place just before Johnson addressed the country and announced strict measures. A source from the Daily Mirror newspaper called the meeting a “covid nightmare” with “a lot of alcohol”, while the measures prevented many Britons from celebrating Christmas with family and friends last year.

Johnson said he has been assured that no Christmas drinks have taken place. He did apologize for the video, which he said made him “furious”. Stratton handed in her resignation yesterday.

The leaked video shows Stratton practicing for difficult questions from the press. She suggests, among other things, to call the meeting “just cheese and wine” and a “work meeting without mutual distance”.

“It wasn’t a party, just cheese and wine”:
