The KNRM has set out with several boats to search for a missing sailor on the Lauwersmeer, in the north of the country. Two helicopters and a Coast Guard plane were also used in the search for the man. The fire brigade is also looking for it, reports RTV North.
The search began around 8 p.m. last night. Since then, the sailboat has been found empty. There was still some clothing of the man on board, but the sailor himself is still missing.
It is not clear what happened to him. The Coast Guard believes he fell off the boat earlier in the day. It Newspaper of the North reports that the search was launched after the coastguard was unable to contact the sailboat for a long time yesterday.
