Representative of Geneva banking joins the board

On the occasion of the general assembly, the Zurich Banking Association renewed its board of directors. The Zurich governor of a Geneva private bank has joined the board.

As part of the overall renewal election, Tuesday (yesterday) Andreas Arni, Head of the Zurich office and Swiss domestic business of Lombard Odier, new to the board of the Zurich Banking Association (ZBV) elected.

The industry association announced in a communiqué on Wednesday that the cooperation between the financial centers of Zurich and Geneva will be strengthened.

Entrepreneur specialist Arni joined the Geneva-based private bank from Credit Suisse (CS) last December.

More than CHF 2 billion in emergency loans

Association President Daniel Hunziker waved a wreath to around 40 member banks and their 50,000 employees on the occasion. In the canton of Zurich alone, the banks had issued 23,000 loans with a total volume of 2.36 billion francs due to the federal government’s Covid-19 program. In addition, a further 116 loans with a total volume of CHF 103.2 million were granted as part of the cantonal supplementary measures.

A large part of this, namely 69 loans for CHF 56.9 million, went to startups.

Should the banks still pay dividends?

  • Yes, absolutely, as they got good results.

  • Yes, but only half of their planned dividends.

  • Yes, part of it to the shareholders, the other part to a corona relief fund.

  • No, you should keep the dividends to build reserves.

  • No, they should introduce lower fees with the dividends.
