Reports: a British tourist was shot dead outside a hotel in Argentina

A British tourist was shot dead and another wounded on Saturday outside a luxury hotel in the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, British and Argentine media reported.

The Argentine newspaper Clarin reported that around 11 am (1400 GMT) thieves in motorcycles shot a 50-year-old man, wounding him in the chest, causing his death. His 28-year-old son was injured in the leg, but his condition was not critical.

According to the newspaper, the British were with three family members when they were attacked outside the Faina Hotel in the Puerto Madero district by at least two of the attackers were on a motorbike and with the support of another vehicle not identified.

Clarin added that the police are still searching for the attackers.

The Argentine national news agency, Tillam, said the family had just arrived in the country and had a reservation at the luxury hotel.

“We are supporting the family of the two British men in the aftermath of an incident in Buenos Aires, and we are in contact with the local authorities there,” the Press Association quoted a Foreign Office spokeswoman as saying.
