Report: Two young Manchester City defenders set to join Vincent Kompany’s Burnley

Two youngsters from Manchester City are set to join Burnley, according to reports. One of these deals is expected to be a one-season loan while the other is a permanent deal.

This information comes as no surprise as it was to be expected that City legend Vincent Kompany would use his links with the club to his advantage. His new club find themselves in financial difficulty, so it makes sense to use his allegiances to loan out young players or for a small fee.

According to a report from Manchester Evening News, the first player close to joining the Clarets is Taylor Harwood-Bellis. The 20-year-old is highly regarded at City and will join the Lancashire side on a season-long loan.

The centre-back has previously played under Kompany, having been loaned out to Anderlecht last year for half the season when Kompany was the Belgian side’s coach. This will certainly make it easier for Harwood-Bellis to integrate into the Burnley team, who already know their coach well and the style of play he uses.

The report says the second player to move to Burnely is CJ Egan-Riley. However, unlike the Harwood-Bellis deal, this one is expected to be a permanent move.

According to the Evening News, Egan-Riley’s transfer to Turf Moor will be finalized tomorrow when his contract with City expires. City will be liable for compensation for the defender and the report says the two sides have reached an agreement over those fees, meaning a court can be avoided to set a fee.

Sky blues may be disappointed to lose one of their young stars for what may be a small fee. However, Egan-Riley was never to make it into the first team and the club will retain the much-loved Harwood-Bellis, while continuing to develop.
