Report from analysts: New passenger cars fell slightly in the second quarter of the year

Prices of new passenger cars on the Czech market fell by an average of 0.8 percent in Q2. Cars in basic equipment became cheaper by up to 3.2 percent, ie by CZK 14,919, while the best-equipped cars became more expensive by 0.7 percent, ie by 5,154 crowns. The coronavirus epidemic manifested itself in price movements. That’s according to EY’s price index.

The price of diesel cars fell by 1.6 percent and petrol cars by 0.3 percent. Hybrids fell 0.6 percent. On the other hand, CNG cars rose slightly by 0.1 percent. For electric cars, the price stagnated.

“Thanks to the price index, we can observe the first impacts of covid-19 on the Czech automotive market in the last quarter. may continue to reduce selected prices for new vehicles in an attempt to improve this year’s sales results, but forecasts for price list discounts of tens of percent are definitely not being met, “said EY partner Petr Knap.

About 40 percent of the cars in the basic equipment became cheaper due to special price lists. Compared to the beginning of 2018, however, the cheapest variants of cars, despite discounts in the last quarter, are on average 9.5 percent more expensive; in monetary terms, they have risen in price by CZK 39,866 in a year and a half.

For the basic versions, the price fell the most in the lower middle class, by 9.6 percent, and in the upper middle class, by 1.9 percent. The exceptions were the SUV and small car segments, where prices rose by 0.7 percent and 1.5 percent, respectively. For example, the Ford Kuga fell by CZK 141,000, the Škoda Octavia by CZK 140,000 and the Nissan Qashqai by CZK 118,000 in Q2, which is also due to the fact that the Octavia came with the lowest equipment level Active, a special edition of 125 years and a 1.0 TSI engine .

On the other hand, a significant increase in prices was recorded for the Dacia Duster models, namely by CZK 50,000, for which the special offer ended, and Renault Captur, by CZK 105,000, which introduced a new generation with a modified engine offer.

Compared to April, 38.2 percent of the most expensive variants of the monitored models became more expensive. The highest growth was recorded in the mini car segment, by 4.1 percent and small cars became more expensive by 2.6 percent.

The highest available variant of the Renault Captur (CZK 260,000) and Renault Clio (CZK 119,000) became the most expensive, thanks to the addition of hybrid variants to the offer. On the other hand, the price of the highest equipment for the Nissan Qashqai models dropped the most (CZK -138,000), which became cheaper across all equipment. Prices also fell for Volkswagen Golf models (CZK -104,000), which is due to the termination of the e-Golf electric variant.
