Frankfurt More than every second German citizen over 65 owns a property, and the majority of senior citizens have successfully paid off the loan for it in recent decades. But now many do not have the money to enjoy life: around two million property owners over 65 years of age have less than 1,000 euros a month, as the German Senior League shows.
Many older people have to resist traveling or other expensive wishes – but they actually have considerable wealth to show from their property.
But there are offers that promise a remedy – and there are currently more and more. They attract retirees with quick money through products called “equity release” – various types of property annuity.
