Three mountain bike police officers were shot on Friday June 24, shortly before 5 p.m., in the Maurepas district, in Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine). While the police were carrying out an identity check, two men on a scooter, who had just fired in the direction of a drug resale point, “possibly” towards lookouts, targeted them with automatic weapons, reports the public prosecutor of Rennes. “The police threw themselves on the ground and took out their weapons without using them”, he continues. None of them were injured as the scooter fled.
In total, “eleven cartridge cases caliber 9 mm” were found on the ground, says the prosecutor, as well as in the adjacent streets. A criminal investigation into attempted murder and attempted murder of persons in public authority – a charge which “incur life imprisonment”according to the prosecutor – was entrusted to the territorial direction of the judicial police.
