RENNES. HOTEL PASTEUR ROUVRE WITH THE FAUX-PONT AND EDULAB SCHOOL

From March 1, the reception of the Hotel Pasteur reopens! New guests come to drop off their luggage at the hotel to stay for a few hours or several months. These hosts will build, experiment, manufacture but also live in the big hut Pasteur.

L’Pasteur Hotel is at the heart of Rennes and its history. It is linked to the history of science and the intellectual vocation of the city. But occupation and scientific heritage have migrated year after year to other spaces. For the misfortune of some, and the happiness of others. An ephemeral “Fairground University” moved into the vacant building in 2013 before being transformed into a “Project Hotel” in 2016. Led with a dynamic hand by Sophie ricard and Patrick Bouchain, who handed over to Gwenola Drillet in August 2019, the time for the rehabilitation work had come.

Guillaume Jouin-Tremeur, the architect who led the site permanence for more than two years has just completed his mission. He transmitted the keys to the association managing the place (it is always a matter of keys to Pasteur), the sign of the end of this architectural permanence which has punctuated and orchestrated the daily life of the concierge and craftsmen.

The first weeks will be invitations to look at those who occupy the place, in particular the resource center of The teammate, the group of architects Lost&Find, a citizen worksite with B.I.S., the return of (Ré) -assemblé.es… Neighbors, followers, curious and curious, follow us on the networks to know the daily future of the place and its guests!

Upstairs, works designed from the reuse of skydomes and blinds from the former Dental Care Center have been installed. The spectacular chandelier designed by Pierre-Thomas Deillon is in charge of the lighting of the foyer terrace. The colorful blinds ofEmma Seferian in the Grande Galerie, for their part, they create patterns that appear by transparency, according to the rays of light. A work that can also be observed from the outside: quai Dujardin.

Exciting question that begins. The Rennes city initiates a process in several phases. Hotel Pasteur experiments with approaches to this public space: Place Pasteur will change its face according to the seasons with different interventions carried by residents, students, artists, researchers.
Since last September, when the site fell asleep and the janitors rest, the artists of The Rance is not a river make the Hotel Pasteur their HQ. A theatrical creation should emerge from this three-year project. At the initiative of Massimo Dean for the company Kali & Co, it brings together a team which is made up of people known as on the fringes, around the pen ofYvon Le Men. Several fragments of the text will invest the various partner places.

Gregoire Romanet & Geoffroy Pithon has just started to define the future graphic identity of Hotel Pasteur. The two artists who joined forces for the occasion, came to immerse themselves in the site before its end for a one-week stay alongside the concierge. Each phase of the process of defining Pasteur was adorned with different colors, the site had a yellow dress, what will be the imagination of tomorrow? See you in March to discover the visual identity of this new stage!

The key is a striking symbol for anyone who has been a guest in this place, it embodies the trust placed in everyone. Unique key, passed from hand to hand and never lost, it’s time to dedicate your stories to him. Because at the dawn of reopening the doors of hospitality, we must be able to pass on the witness of what happened to our neighbors. To your keyboards to tell us your story, to your pencils to draw.
