Rendi-Wagner: “I always promoted youth”

The party leader comments on the announcement by the socialist youth that they no longer want to support them. She herself, says Rendi-Wagner, ensured that the previous SJ boss got a seat in the National Council.

Vienna, The Socialist Youth will not vote in the SPÖ membership survey for Pamela Rendi-Wagner to remain at the head of the SPÖ, said the new SJ leader, Paul Stich, in the “press” on Monday. The SPÖ must again be the political determining force, but one does not have the feeling that this is currently possible. However, the blame was not only to be found with Rendi-Wagner, it needed an overall reorganization of the party, which could not be determined from one person. Nevertheless, Pamela Rendi-Wagner would not be able to support this question of trust. This applies to the entire socialist youth, it was discussed, discussed and decided together, said Stich.

And what does Pamela Rendi-Wagner say about it? It was she, in particular, who had always encouraged young people. She also ensured that the previous SJ chairwoman Julia Herr was put on a selectable list place for the National Council election. At the same time, she was calm: “Public alignment, criticism, public hacking and internal self-employment” are “nothing new”.

Corona: “crisis coordinator”

The SPÖ chairman appeared again on Tuesday in the “Red Foyer”, the new weekly media jour fixe of the Social Democrats. Rendi-Wagner called on the government to set up a “central crisis coordinator” on the corona virus. There has to be “a head that has an overview and bundles all information” – and that makes the decisions about what ultimately happens.

Once again, she commented on the “impending minus of the Austrian health insurance fund amounting to 1.7 billion euros in the years 2020 to 2024” – and the statements of ÖGK general director Bernhard Wurzer, who had announced a “consolidation path”. “When the head of the ÖGK talks about tightening your belt, I know who has to do it: namely the doctors on the one hand and the patients on the other,” says Rendi-Wagner.

The government program says that the expansion of deductibles for doctor visits is excluded. “Visits to the doctor are only a small part of health care. What about medical aids, patient transport, prescription fees, ambulance fees? ”All of this is not excluded in the government program. The head of the SPÖ also referred to the legal basis in the Social Insurance Act, which “promised” the introduction of deductibles, because it forced the ÖGK “to evaluate once a year whether it should introduce deductibles”.

Accordingly, unanimity is no longer required in the conference of the umbrella organization of the funds for such a measure, the introduction is therefore a “very probable scenario”. The SPÖ therefore calls for the corresponding provision to be changed. The SPÖ is also a thorn in the side of the different performance requirements of the three large health insurers. The SPÖ therefore calls for “equal benefits for the same contributions”. The financial risk for the health insurers must also be better balanced. (Red./APA)
