Removing Director General of Christian-Catholic-Hindu-Buddhist Community Guidance, Ministry of Religion Denies Discrimination

Jakarta

The former Director General of Buddhist Guidance at the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) Caliadi said the public was wondering why everything ‘non’ director general was swept away by the Minister of Religion (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas. The ‘non’ director generals referred to by Caliadi are the Christian, Catholic, Hindu, Buddhist and Buddhist Community Guidance Director Generals.

The Ministry of Religion responded. Ministry of Religion said the official was still fresh so there was no need to be dismissed. The Ministry of Religion also denied there was discrimination behind the removal.

“No (discrimination) at all. If the others are still fresh, isn’t it counterproductive? The position is non-discriminatory,” said Secretary General of the Ministry of Religion Nizar Ali when asked for confirmation, Thursday (12/23/2021).

Nizar emphasized that Yaqut’s decision to dismiss the six Echelon 1 officials of the Ministry of Religion was carried out for refreshment. According to him, mutation is a common thing.

“I’ve said the reason is refreshment. Dismissal and transfers are common in organizations,” he said.

Then, Nizar explained that every minister must have never conveyed the reason why he dismissed someone from his position. However, Nizar ensured that Minister of Religion Yaqut was not arbitrary in dismissing the six Ministry of Religion officials.

“All ministers when dismissing never convey reasons or considerations. There must be considerations, it can’t be arbitrary. Once again, not for public consumption and also for those concerned,” said Nizam.

“In accordance with the regulations, there is no obligation for the civil service officer to convey specific reasons to the public, especially to the person concerned,” he continued.

Furthermore, Nizar explained the reason why the Ministry of Religion did not provide the decree proposing the dismissal on the date as written in the decree, namely December 6, 2021. He said that there were still other processes carried out by the final assessment team.

“The decision to dismiss or transfer is different from appointment to a certain position. If the termination is per TTD, while the appointment is inauguration. So the TPA (final assessment team) decision process is as of December 6, while the signing process will only be completed on Thursday,” explained Nizar.

Nizar said the dismissed officials had been notified by telephone. A decision in the form of a letter has also been given, although it was delayed due to a holiday.

Meanwhile, Nizar welcomed if the six Echelon 1 officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs wanted to file a lawsuit. Nizar stressed the layoffs were done in the interest of the organization, not the individual.

“Please sue. Because it’s an individual’s right. And in my statement, dismissal, transfer of promotion is solely for the benefit of the organization, not the interests of individuals or groups,” added Nizar.

Previously, Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas removed six echelon I officials within the Ministry of Religion. The former Director General of Buddhist Community Guidance, Caliadi, said the removal made the public wonder why all the ‘non’ director generals were wiped out.

“Moreover, religious moderation is now being echoed, but why are all the non-director generals being swept away, right, what’s wrong, what’s wrong? What? The public will question that, what policy is Yaqut doing,” said Caliadi when contacted by detikcom, Wednesday (22/12).

Caliadi admitted that he received information regarding the removal via a WhatsApp (WA) message. The WhatsApp message was sent by the Head of the Ministry of Religion’s Personnel Bureau when he was on duty out of town.

“(Know he was removed) from the Head of the Civil Service Bureau via Whatsapp, we are currently on duty out of town, at night we were informed that we wanted to face him, wanted to take the decree,” he said.
