Remembering Karim Ouellet, who died at 37

The artist Karim Ouellet is no more. The 37-year-old singer was found dead on Monday evening in Quebec.

The lifeless body of Mr. Ouellet was discovered on January 17, a little before 10 p.m., inside the L’Unisson studio, rue Saint-Anselme, in the Saint-Roch district. Although the circumstances of the death of the singer are for the moment unknown, the Police Department of the City of Quebec dismissed the criminal thesis. The successful singer-songwriter, who had been more discreet in recent years, had offered several outstanding performances on the territory.

In Chambly and Carignan

Mr. Ouellet last performed in Chambly in 2018, at Fort Chambly Park, as part of the 17th edition of the Beer and Flavor Festival, which was held from August 31 to September 3. In Carignan, he had been present at the Citizens’ Day show, a year earlier, at the Parc de la Mairie (2555, chemin Bellevue), for which he had granted an interview to the Chambly newspaper in 2017. “I always give the same show, whether we are 100 or 2,500”, he confided.

In 2013, at the time of his hit, love, Mr. Ouellet had also offered a whole performance at the Parc des Ateliers, on the occasion of the event To the tune of Chambly, marking, on the one hand, the Chamblyan public, and on the other hand, the artists who were then able to rub shoulders with them. This is the case of the singer Amélie Hewett, for whom the event and the meeting with Mr. Ouellet remain memorable.

“It was during To the tune of Chambly, in the summer of 2013, remembers the singer. I had the honor of opening for Karim Ouellet that night. I remember, after my soundcheck (sound test), he and his musicians had come to tell me that my version of your jewelry (song by Fanny Bloom) sounded really good! I was really touched that he took the time to come talk to me. The city of Chambly awarded me the prize for the first part of the summer, having garnered the most votes from the public — their public was on fire! The crowd was singing so loud during his show, especially when he sang his big hit Love. I have fond memories of that evening. »
