Remaining program in the relegation battle of Werder, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf

The relegation battle in the Bundesliga is preparing to become a real thriller.

While bottom of the table SC Paderborn slowly but surely loses the connection to the non-relegation places after the 1: 6-clap against BVB, the field before the East Westphalia has pushed closer and closer five matchdays before the end of the season.

Werder and Eintracht with catch up game

Werder Bremen is largely responsible for this development. Florian Kohfeldt’s team has scored seven points in the past three games and has not conceded a goal. As 17th, the Werderers are only two points away from the relegation place that Fortuna Düsseldorf occupies. There are currently three points for the saving bank.

But the Kohfeldt team still has a special trump card in hand: In contrast to the direct competition, Werder has one more game to play, on Wednesday evening the catch-up game against Eintracht Frankfurt (Bundesliga: Werder Bremen – Eintracht Frankfurt from 8.30 p.m. in the LIVETICKER). With another victory, Bremen could leave the direct relegation zone.

Cologne misses liberation

Eintracht is still not out of the relegation process. In 12th place, the Hessians currently only separate five points from 16th place – if they lost in Bremen, it would be only four.

The duel in the Weserstadion gains additional explosiveness with a look into the recent past: On the last matchday of the 2015/16 season, Werder secured a relegation with a victory in a direct duel against Eintracht and promoted the Frankfurt to the relegation. Only there did the SBU secure itself against the 1. FC Nürnberg razor-thin and at the last minute the relegation.

1. FC Köln already missed on Monday evening to get rid of all relegation worries. Despite an early lead, Markus Gisdol RB Leipzig’s team lost 2: 4. With 34 points, however, Cologne’s eleventh place still has a comfortable lead.

There will be two direct cellar duels on the next match day. The 1st FSV Mainz (15th place) receives Eintracht Frankfurt, the Cologne team has to compete against FC Augsburg (13th place). For Paderborn, the game against Leipzig goes to a final, the East Westphalia can already relegate on Matchday 31.
