The number of new cases of Covid-19 recorded in Belgium stood at 505.6 per day on average between August 11 and August 17, which is a 20% drop from the previous seven-day period, according to data updated Friday morning by Sciensano.
In total, 80,178 cases have been confirmed in Belgium since the start of the epidemic. In Brussels, the number of cases continues to increase, with 21 more contaminations compared to the previous period. The incidence is 66.7 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
As of Thursday, 25 new hospital admissions were recorded, as well as 53 discharges, for a total of 303 patients currently in hospital, including 82 in intensive care. About 32 hospitalizations were recorded per day between August 11 and August 17, or 14% more than during the previous seven-day period.
The number of Covid-19 deaths now stands at 9,976, or seven more than the number communicated Thursday by Sciensano. The daily average of deaths over a seven-day period is now 9.9, jumping 86% from the previous week.
