Jakarta, Selular.ID – The need for laptops in Indonesia is getting higher during the pandemic era in 2021. Because Indonesian people use laptops to carry out routine online activities such as work and study. Based on the latest IDC data, the PC market including desktops, notebooks and workstations in the country grew by 50% YoY in the first half of 2021 with a total of 2.06 million units entering Indonesia compared to the same period in 2020.
Notebooks/laptops remain the driving force for the growth of the PC market for the consumer and commercial segments with a market share of 85% of all PCs with an impressive annual growth of 78% in H1-2021. Stallone Hangewa, Senior Market Analyst, IDC Indonesia revealed that shipments of desktops and notebooks for the consumer market again grew by 22% and 28% respectively during the first semester (H1) 2021. This is because schools are still implementing distance learning, notebooks are still a the device of choice because the use of a webcam is very essential during the teaching and learning process
In the Top 5 PC Vendors in Indonesia for the H1-2021 version of IDC, Asus held on to the top position in the first semester of 2021 with a total market share of 25%. Asus’ commercial segment showed a very impressive growth by recording a growth of 1.141%. This is driven by Chromebook devices for education procurement projects.
Then in the next position occupied by Acer, Lenovo, HP, and Dell. Unfortunately, IDC did not mention the details of the market share gain of each PC vendor during the January to June 2021 period. IDC predicts that in the second semester of 2021 the demand for notebooks will continue to increase, even though face-to-face classes have begun to be reintroduced by schools in several cities in Indonesia.
IDC also explained that the opportunity for the PC market in Indonesia is still wide open. However, the availability of goods is still a question mark for all PC vendors. This could potentially lead to missed opportunities for these opportunities.
In 2021, four smartphone vendors will enliven the homeland laptop industry such as Xiaomi, Infinix, Realme and Itel. Infinix is the pioneer of a smartphone brand that has penetrated the laptop industry in the country by launching its first laptop to Indonesia, the INBook X1 Series in June 2021. Furthermore, Xiaomi is bringing a laptop to Indonesia for the first time, the RedmiBook 15 on July 22, 2021.
