PSSI known to be reluctant to naturalize Kevin diks. What is the response of the 24-year-old player?
Previously, PSSI announced that they could not naturalize Kevin Diks because he was more than 20 years old, while they only wanted to naturalize players who could appear in the 2021 U-20 World Cup.
Besides that, PSSI also said that Kevin Diks could no longer defend Indonesian National team because ever played for Netherlands U-21 national team. PSSI refers to the statute FIFA which regulates the regulations on the movement of players from one country to another.
PSSI’s statement was made on 22 September. PSSI claimed to have known the origin of the player after contacting the player’s agent.
Even so, Kevin Diks still hopes to strengthen the Indonesian national team. He is still waiting for PSSI calls.
“Of course they are free to express their opinions. But, if there is a chance, please contact me,” said Kevin Diks in the virtual discussion that followed detikSport.
“Yes, that is true, (PSSI) spoke with my agent 2-3 months ago. They said they would call back within one week, but until now they haven’t been contacted again. It’s a bit confusing, I’m still waiting.”
“I don’t know why they don’t contact me anymore. I understand if they just want to naturalize young players, but to be honest I’m still young, still 24 years old.”
“If you want to naturalize, I’m still young, really. But I understand about their desire to only naturalize young players (under 20 years),” said the player who is now strengthening Aarhus GF in the Danish League.
In fact, there is nothing wrong with PSSI’s reluctance to naturalize Kevin Diks. It is not certain that the player’s desire to strengthen the Indonesian national team is approved by Shin Tae-yong as the current national team coach.
However, all decisions regarding player selection are certainly up to the coach. If Shin wanted, it was not impossible that PSSI would one day take care of all Kevin Diks’ naturalization processes.
