Herry Wirawan defended after the prosecutor demanded the death penalty. Herry regrets and asks for a reduced sentence
Herry’s defense was carried out through the reading of a memorandum of defense or pleidoi which was read in a trial at the Bandung District Court (PN), Jalan LL.RE Martadinata, Bandung City on Thursday (20/1/2022).
“Essentially as short as it can be known that the person concerned is sorry, then apologizes to all the victims and their families, then asks for a reduced sentence,” said Head of the West Java Attorney General’s Office, Dodi Gazali Emil, after the trial.
Herry attended the trial virtually from the Bandung detention center. Herry read out his plea after the legal advisor read the plea.
According to Dodi, during the defense reading, Herry seemed calm. He was not nervous when he made his request.
“From what I saw earlier, I’m not (nervous),” he said.
Meanwhile, Ira Mambo, Herry’s attorney, was reluctant to reveal the contents of his and Herry’s plea. Ira reasoned that the plea was quite long and could not be explained in public.
“Basically, we are asking for a sentence that is as fair as possible. Of course, we cannot describe it and the defendant is also given the opportunity to defend himself personally. The essence of the defendant’s defense is sorry, we can’t provide any information,” said Ira.
As is known, Herry was dragged to the court after raping 13 female students. For his actions, Herry was charged with multiple punishments.
In addition to the death penalty, Herry will also be castrated. Herry’s assets and assets were also asked to be confiscated.
