Registration runs despite obstacles

With all negative headlines about problems with the online registration for the corona vaccination, the overloaded telephone registration and the slow allocation of vaccination appointments – around 5064 residents of the city and district of Wrzburg had their first as of Thursday, January 28th Vaccinated. There are also over 1000 employees in clinics in Wrzburg and Ochsenfurt. 32,000 people who want to be vaccinated have already registered and are waiting for an appointment, depending on the availability of the vaccine. This corresponds to more than a tenth of the total of 292 757 inhabitants in the city and district. But there is still great uncertainty, especially among older people. And that puts additional strain on the employees on the telephone hotline.

A total of 3351 people over the age of 80 received the first vaccination, says the administrative director of the vaccination centers, Michael Drse. That corresponds to about 15 percent of this age group. 1290 people have already been vaccinated a second time. And for the rest of them, too, it is ensured that there is enough vaccine available for the second vaccination. In the retirement homes, mobile teams have meanwhile administered 3,063 first and 950 second vaccinations. The numbers overlap because residents under 80 also belong to the group of people with the highest priority. The remaining vaccination doses were given to medical staff, including those in the test and vaccination centers and in the emergency services, who also belong to the highest-priority group.

“It would be important that currently only those over 80 years of age call who have no way of registering via the Internet.”

Tanja Bartsch, head of the Corona call center

Independently of the deliveries to the vaccination centers, vaccines are available to hospitals for particularly vulnerable employees. In the Main Clinic in Ochsenfurt, for example, all around 120 employees in the intensive care unit, the isolated Covid ward and the emergency room have now received their first vaccination, says the deputy administrative director and doctor Georg Sonnek. The second vaccinations will start next week.

Special allocation for hospital staff

In the Wrzburg Mitte Clinic with its Juliusspital and Mission Medical Clinic locations, 656 employees have now been vaccinated for the first time. That is about two thirds of the doctors and nurses who are in direct contact with patients, says spokeswoman Daniela Kalb. 186 have already received the second vaccination. In addition to the vaccine from Biontech, the vaccine from the manufacturer Moderna is also used here. When the other employees of the highest priority level can be vaccinated depends on the further allocation of vaccine by the Ministry of Health. “We are grateful for everything we get,” said Kalb.

The situation is still tense in the call center, which the BRK set up on behalf of the District Office for telephone registration. Eight employees have been working there since mid-December. The telephones are manned from Monday to Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. It takes around 15 minutes per registration to enter the patient data into the nationwide standardized software, says the call center manager, Tanja Bartsch. Between 600 and 700 registrations per day can be created in this way. In fact, around 8,000 call attempts are registered every day. That is why they are in the process of doubling the number of employees to 16.

Ambiguity between registration and appointment allocation

Many people who are already registered and are waiting to be informed of a vaccination appointment or have general medical questions about the vaccination still called. “Of course that stops,” says Tanja Bartsch. The employees could not answer medical questions – among other things, the information phone of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians is available on 116 117. Depending on the availability of the vaccine and the respective priority, appointments would be activated via the nationwide uniform software without the call center staff having any influence on it.

“It would be important that at the moment only those over 80 years of age who belong to the highest priority and who have no way of registering via the Internet, call”, appeals Tanja Bartsch. Many callers are still not aware that they only have to register first and then automatically receive an appointment notification later. Bartsch assumes that the situation will only relax when the supply of vaccine can be planned for a longer period of time, so that appointments can be made when registering.

Software should be improved

The BRK project manager, Quirin Zednik, also urges you to use online registration as a priority and, if necessary, to seek help from relatives or acquaintances. How many of the already 32,000 registered people belong to the group with the highest or highest priority cannot be determined from the software used at the moment. “That would be interesting for us too,” says Zednik. The Ministry of Health has promised appropriate improvements.

Nevertheless, Michael Drse notes that the vaccination campaign is not hampered by problems with registration, but by the lack of availability of the vaccine. The two vaccination centers and the mobile vaccination centers in the city and district of Wrzburg are currently guaranteed a total of 924 vaccination doses per week, according to Drse. “In theory, we could scold that in a day.”

Fixed assignment to the vaccination centers

Due to the limited capacities, those wishing to vaccinate will no longer be able to choose freely between the vaccination centers in Wrzburg and Giebelstadt, but will be assigned to a vaccination center according to their place of residence, as announced by the district administration.

The following communities are assigned to the Wrzburg Talavera vaccination center: Bergtheim, Eisenheim, Erlabrunn, Estenfeld, Gerbrunn, Gntersleben, Hausen, Hchberg, Krnach, Leinach, Margetshchheim, Oberpleichfeld, Prosselsheim, Rimpar, Rottendorf, Thngersheim, Unterpleichfeld, Veitshchheim, Zell am Main and die Inhabitants of the city of Wrzburg.

The vaccination center Giebelstadt is assigned: Altertheim, Aub, Bieberehren, Btthard, Eibelstadt, Eisingen, Frickenhausen, Gauknigshofen, Gelchsheim, Geroldshausen, Giebelstadt, Greuenheim, Helmstadt, Hettstadt, Holzkirchen, Kirchheim, Kist, Kleinrinderfeld, Neubrunn, Ochsenfurt, Randersacker, Remlingen, Riedenheim, Rttingen, Sommerhausen, Sonderhofen, Tauberrettersheim, Theilheim, Uettingen, Waldbrunn, Waldbttelbrunn, Winterhausen.

Anyone who specified a different vaccination center when registering does not have to register again, but is automatically assigned to the responsible vaccination center. According to information from the Bavarian Ministry of Health, which is responsible for the registration software, the assignment is automatically corrected when the vaccination date is communicated. This means that if a person from Hchberg was named Giebelstadt as the vaccination center two weeks ago when registering, this person does not have to do anything to receive the vaccination on the Talavera.
