Registered unemployment fell in June in the Canary Islands by almost 3,000 people, 1% | Radio Club Tenerife | Present

The number of unemployed registered in the public employment offices of the Canary Islands fell in June by 2,942 compared to May, 1.06 percent, and currently stands at a total of 274,475 people, according to data released this Friday by the Ministry of Labor.

Compared to June 2020, the economy of the islands has 12,761 more registered unemployed, which represents a year-on-year rise in unemployment of 4.88 percent.

Registered unemployment fell last month in the whole of Spain by 4.41%, with decreases in all the autonomous communities. The 1.06% decrease observed in the Canary Islands is the third smallest in the country, after the Basque Country (-0.21%) and Murcia (-0.31%).

The behavior of unemployment in June was very similar in the two provinces: in Las Palmas it fell by 1.07% (1,550 fewer unemployed persons) and in Santa Cruz de Tenerife it fell by 1.05% (1,392 less).

To this date, Las Palmas has 143,401 registered unemployed, 6,252 more than a year ago (+ 4.56%), and Santa Cruz de Tenerife has 131,074, 6,509 more (+5.23%).

Of the 274,475 people registered on the unemployment lists in the islands, 122,906 are men and 151,569 are women. 21,245 are under the age of 25 (11,684 males and 9,561 females).

Last month, unemployment fell in the Canary Islands in all sectors of activity, except in the group without previous occupation, which increased by 79 people. On the other hand, the primary sector (-183), industry (-150), construction (-527) and the services sector, which includes hotels, tourism and commerce (-2,161), recorded decreases.

By sectors, the registered unemployed in the archipelago are distributed as follows: 5,865 in agriculture, 9,704 in industry, 24,259 in construction, 210,562 in services and 24,085 in the group without previous occupation.

In June, 47,071 employment contracts were signed in the islands, 7,152 more than in May (+17.92%) and 17,816 more than in the same month last year (+60.90%). Of all of them, 41,456 were temporary and 5,615 permanent.

Permanent hiring decreased by 62 work commitments compared to May (-1.09%), but represented 41.69% more than in June 2020 (1,652 more permanent contracts).

Regarding temporary contracts, 7,214 more were signed than in May (+21.07%) and 16,164 more than a year ago (+63.91%).
