The SPD, the Greens and the Left now want to form a coalition in Dietzenbach. A joint program is to be developed.

A red-red-green alliance will come about in Dietzenbach: the SPD, Greens and Die Linke announced in a press release on Thursday that they were going into coalition talks. The three parliamentary groups would then have 23 out of 45 seats in the city parliament – and thus a narrow majority.

Immediately after the local elections, the defeated mayoral candidate René Bacher (Greens) made it clear that a coalition with the Christian Democrats was out of the question for his party, although the CDU is the strongest force with 13 seats and the Greens (ten seats) therefore no third coalition partner for a majority.

In the past few years, many votes were run in parallel with the Social Democrats, said Bacher. The SPD won eleven seats in the local elections. At that time, Bacher did not want to commit to a third faction for a possible coalition.

“In terms of content, we see the greatest overlap with the Greens and the Left,” said SPD parliamentary group leader Ahmed Idrees. However, that does not rule out the possibility of working together with other political groups in day-to-day politics. Ivana Medvidovic (Die Linke) stated that only with the SPD and the Greens would the policy change “that our city urgently needs” come about.

After exploratory talks with all parties and voter groups – only the AfD was left out – the first stakes are now being struck for the coalition of the SPD, the Greens and the Left. In the coming days, a joint program for an ecological and social policy is to be worked out.

Since spring 2018 there have been changing majorities in Dietzenbach; At that time, the Rogg / Citizens’ initiative for Dietzenbach (WIR-BfD) announced the coalition with the CDU and the SPD.
