Red card Willem II striker Wriedt dismissed, Polter misses two duels Fortuna | NOW

Willem II can just have Kwasi Wriedt in the away match against Ajax on Thursday evening. The striker received a red card in the home game against PEC Zwolle (1-3) on Saturday, but it was dismissed on Monday by the prosecutor for professional football.

The 26-year-old Wriedt, who had scored the opening goal in the tenth minute, received a direct red card from referee Sander van der Eijk in the injury time of the first half because he was on the foot of Mike van Duinen.

However, the repetition showed that he shot the ball away and only then unconsciously hit the leg of the PEC striker who was rushing in. Despite this, the VAR stuck to Van der Eijk’s decision, leaving Willem II with ten men.

After the break, PEC came back into the game and the people of Zwolle won through a hat-trick by Reza Ghoochannejhad. The prosecutor for professional football intervenes two days later, so that Wriedt does not have to miss any more matches of his team.

Willem II remained against PEC for the ninth league match in a row without a victory and currently occupies the seventeenth place in the Eredivisie with ten points, four more than FC Emmen. The away match against Ajax starts on Thursday at 9 p.m.

Fortuna Sittard two duels without striker Polter

Fortuna Sittard has to do without its striker for the next two matches. Sebastian Polter, who received a red card in the home match against Ajax (1-2) on Sunday, has been suspended by the prosecutor for three games, one of which has been suspended. The Limburgers have agreed to the punishment.

29-year-old Polter was sent off in injury time of the game after he stood on Edson Álvarez’s foot with no intention of hitting the ball. Referee Dennis Higler had missed the moment, but turned red when the VAR intervened and let him view the images.

With his red card, Polter ended a dramatic week in style for him. The German was already responsible for the 0-1 against Ajax with an own goal. He also caused a penalty kick in the extension against NEC in the eighth finals of the TOTO KNVB Cup on Thursday, although that penalty was easily awarded.

With six league goals this season, Polter is the joint top scorer of Fortuna in the Eredivisie together with Zian Flemming. Due to his suspension, the striker misses the games against RKC Waalwijk (Wednesday, away) and VVV-Venlo (Saturday, at home).
