Red Bull F1 team boss Christian Horner says the future of Red Bull Racing / Scuderia AlphaTauri remains secure after the death of Red Bull founder and co-owner Dietrich Mateschitz.
Red Bull’s involvement in F1 and motorsport in general was a result of Dietrich Mateschitz’s personal passion and, given the huge amount of ongoing investment required, it was inevitable that what would happen after his death led observers the idea of what would happen.
In fact, when there were rumors of a Porsche takeover, they were linked to Dietrich Mateschitz’s health.
But Christian Horner says Dietrich Mateschitz has fine-tuned the pieces to secure the future of the Red Bull Racing and Scuderia AlphaTauri F1 teams.
Krichan Horner made it clear that Dietrich Mateschitz’s support for the Red Bull Powertrains project to develop a completely new powertrain for the 2026 F1 regulations makes it clear he has a long-term vision.
Asked if there would be any changes after Dietrich Mateschitz’s death, Christian Horner replied: “No, the future is decided.”
“It has laid a very solid foundation for the future.”
“And in 2026 Red Bull will be the engine manufacturer. That was the missing piece of our puzzle and he had the vision to make it happen.”
“And we will bring that same spirit, his spirit, into our future engine company, just like we did with the chassis.”
“He established that vision and was involved until last week. He has a vision for Red Bull Powertrains and has approved plans to create the team for the long-term future.
“And the commitment it has shown and the ability that has enabled us to build in Milton Keynes put Red Bull Racing in a very strong position for many years to come.”
Asked if Max Verstappen’s second F1 world championship signaled that F1 could enter a period of domination for the team, Horner said he was cautious.
“You can’t make predictions like that,” Christian Horner said.
“This means that we are facing a very tough opponent. It has been a great year. For example, we have broken all the records, the victories and the braces.”
“And there are still three races left. But as you know, we have some very competitive rivals and I’m sure they will be strong again next year.”
