Recordings nominated for “Golden Microphone” – Music – will be announced live on Tuesday

Already this Tuesday, January 19, in a live broadcast from the RISEBA Architecture and Media Center H2O6, the nominees of the “Golden Microphone” award – the Top 5 entrants – will be announced. Everyone interested will be able to watch the event from 2 pm on the portal www.skaties.lv, as well as on the “Golden Microphone” Facebook page.

Sub Scriptum, Kristīne Pāže & “Kautkaili”, musicians Jolanta Gulbe-Paškeviča, Kārlis Kazāks and Kaspars Tobis, as well as Ozols and Zebrene will perform at the nomination event – of course, subject to all applicable restrictions and distance requirements. The submitted albums were judged by a professional jury, a total of 44 industry representatives. Each representative of the jury could evaluate not less than three categories and not more than seven categories, choosing them according to their competence and evaluating possible conflicts of interest.

This year, the jury evaluated 171 albums divided into 13 genre categories, 186 songs, 43 debut albums, 142 videos, as well as 19 concert recordings in video format. In total, 561 records apply for “golden microphones”, which is a significantly higher number than before (last year – 262). When evaluating the stylistic affiliation of the submitted albums, the created categories are reviewed every year. Thus, new categories “Indie Music Album” and “Alternative or Experimental Music Album” have been created this year, as well as two widely represented genres are each divided into their own categories – “Rock Music Album” and “Metal Music Album”. The biggest competition is in the category “Pop album”, which includes 23 albums, and “Rock album”, in which 20 entries apply for the prize. The applicants for the two awards will become known only at the end of January – Radio hits, which is determined by the Latvian Association of Performers and Producers (LaIPA), while the recipient of the award for lifetime contribution to the development of Latvian music will become known in early February.
