Over the past week, India has registered nearly 100,000 cases of infection, the Health Ministry said on Monday. Thus, a total of 548,318 people have detected the virus in the country.
At the same time, several states have introduced partial or full closure in an attempt to curb the spread. But in the hardest hit areas, including in the cities of Mumbai and New Delhi, most infection control restrictions have been lifted.
India is the country in the world with the fourth most cases of infection, after the United States, Brazil and Russia. So far, 16,475 people have died after being infected by the virus.
