Increased snoring may be a symptom of pneumonia

“Pneumonia usually begins with a dry cough. As the disease progresses, sputum appears. Sputum production – an important indicator of pneumonia. With ARVI, as a rule, there is no sputum or its amount is minimal. But a runny nose, on the contrary, says that the patient most likely has a regular ARVI,” says Anna Sotnikova, a pulmonologist at the Federal Scientific and Clinical Center of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia.

Other important symptoms of pneumonia are: decreased breathing and shortness of breath. Shortness of breath is another characteristic symptom that distinguishes pneumonia from ARVI. Other symptoms include: chest pain, fever, rapid heartbeat.

It may also indicate lung problems the appearance or intensification of snoring.

“Snoring occurs due to narrowness of the airways, which can be caused by pneumonia,” explains the pulmonologist.

In addition, it should be alarming when, after an acute respiratory viral infection, the patient feels a temporary improvement, and then there comes second wave of temperature rise. This may also indicate pneumonia.
