Rebellion and hostage-taking in 6 prisons in Argentina, rejecting the Corona ban

On Saturday, prisoners in at least 6 prisons in Argentina began protests against the ban on visitors due to Corona, which developed into violence and hostage-taking.

The local TV channel, TN, said, “Prisoners at a penal facility in San Martin near the capital, Buenos Aires, took 8 officers hostage.”

“At the Lomas de Zamora detention center, the prisoners also took 5 guards hostage,” she added.

She explained that all the hostages were released at a later time after reaching an agreement with the prison administration.

The prison administration was forced to allow relatives to visit their relatives in prison, effective November 14, subject to strict hygiene regulations.

It is reported that visits have been suspended in prisons since mid-March to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus in prisons.

The number of deaths in Argentina since the outbreak of the new Corona virus reached 30,443 cases, while infections reached 1143800 cases.
