Zane Wedding, 40, took a dip in a nearby swimming pool last Friday. When he got home, his ear was blocked. No matter what he did, he couldn’t get the feeling away. Ear drops didn’t help. Wedding decided to go to sleep and hoped it would be gone in the morning.

That was not the case. The strange thing: not only was his ear clogged, sometimes he felt something itchy, it seemed like something was moving. Wedding went to the doctor, but he couldn’t find anything. The doctor advised him to use a hair dryer to remove any water that may have accumulated.

That didn’t help Wedding either. “I lay on my side for most of the weekend,” he says to CNN. “When I got up, I was immediately dizzy.” Wedding then tried everything: jumping up and down, chewing gum, going for a run, but the feeling remained.
‘Nauseous of thought’
On Sunday, the fidgeting he’d been feeling for a few days suddenly stopped, but his ear was still sealed shut. Wedding went to an ENT doctor, because after three days he was fed up. As soon as he took a look, she said, “My God, I think you have an insect in your ear.” And yes, it turned out to be a small cockroach.
The animal was dead by now, probably from the hot air Wedding had blown into his ear. “I immediately thought: all I felt over the weekend was a cockroach walking around in my ear,” says Wedding. “I was sick of the thought.” It took the doctor five minutes to remove the insect. “A huge relief.”
