Real spills points at the start of the competition, big win for Juventus at debut Pirlo | NOW

Real Madrid immediately lost points in the first league game of the season on Sunday. The national champion drew 0-0 at Real Sociedad. In Italy, Juventus livened up trainer Andrea Pirlo’s debut with a win over Sampdoria: 3-0.

A mediocre first half at Real Sociedad-Real Madrid hardly resulted in any chances. Former Willem II striker Alexander Isak was close to the opening goal just before half time, but his shot was blocked by Thibaut Courtois.

Real created more danger in the second half, but Sociedad goalkeeper Alejandro Remiro kept his team going with saves on attempts by Dani Carvajal and Karim Benzema.

Martin Ødegaard had a basic place at Real. The 21-year-old Norwegian, who in the past played for Vitesse and sc Heerenveen, participated for an hour in his first competition match for ‘De Koninklijke’.

David Silva made his debut at Sociedad. The 34-year-old midfielder, who left Manchester City this summer after ten years, played the last half hour.

Juventus immediately started Sampdoria

In Serie A, Dejan Kulusevski opened the score for Juventus against Sampdoria in the thirteenth minute. The Swede curled the ball into the left corner after Cristiano Ronaldo broke down on the visitors’ defense.

Ten minutes later Ronaldo almost made it 2-0 himself, but he shot the crossbar from close range. Leonardo Bonucci did manage to double the margin eleven minutes before time. The defender shot in hard from a rebound at a corner.

Ronaldo also scored in the final phase. The Portuguese put the ball in the far corner after a pass through the middle from Aaron Ramsey.

For Pirlo it was his first official match as a coach of Juventus. The 41-year-old Italian was appointed as successor to the dismissed Maurizio Sarri in early August.

Matthijs de Ligt was missing at Juventus. The Orange International underwent surgery on his shoulder last month and is out of circulation for another two months.
