In the House, GroenLinks, CDA and D66 are delighted that Cabinet has “finally” been able to clarify the approach to the nitrogen crisis. ChristenUnie hopes the agriculture deal will be finalized soon.
“Today, the cabinet is taking an important first step in providing perspective and clarity,” says Derk Boswijk of the CDA coalition party. “The cabinet is finally listening to nature,” says Laura Bromet of GroenLinks.
D66 member Tjeerd de Groot talks about a “golden scheme” for so-called top taxpayers who want to stop farming.
LTO President Van der Tak: ‘A double sensation’
LTO chairman Sjaak van der Tak is “incredibly concerned about the prospects for permanent farmers”. According to him, the plans also increase costs and make eggs and cheese more expensive.
According to Van der Tak, it is “naturally good” that a good voluntary stop program is promised. “But the rest, which are critical to us, will be subject to many additional restrictions, such as higher groundwater levels and limited opportunities for innovation.”
He therefore has “double feelings” about the plans.
Milieudefensie: “Last chance to help voluntarily”
According to Milieudefensie, the agriculture deal is “the last chance for companies to help voluntarily”. The organization also believes that “only the Cabinet wants banks, suppliers and supermarkets to also contribute to the solution of the nitrogen and climate crisis”.
According to Natuur & Milieu, the nitrogen plans only make sense “if the toilet really takes control and makes sure nature comes first.” “The most important thing now is to act very quickly, so that the approach to top loaders begins and the processes of the area continue. Nature cannot wait any longer,” said the environmental organization.
