RDS brings together 4 million for clinical trials of its connected mini-patch

Posted on Feb 8, 2019 2021 at 7:30

Created in February 2020, in Strasbourg, after initial developments in the United States, in Palo Alto, the medtech RDS has just raised funding of 4 million euros to launch the first clinical trials of its connected mini-patch, MultiSense.

Three million were provided by private and institutional patrons, and the rest comes from public aid. Thanks to five sensors, this patch allows real-time measurement of around ten vital cardiorespiratory parameters. It transmits them continuously to healthcare teams via a smartphone connection.

Remote monitoring

The objective is to allow hospitals to monitor remotely and in a secure manner patients at risk of postoperative complications. They can thus bring them back in time in the event of a problem. “Of the 60 million operations performed each year in Europe and the United States, a third concern these patients”, says Elie Lobel, president of RDS. Getting home faster allows for more efficient recovery, avoiding nosocomial illnesses and freeing up beds in a context of hospital stress.

Clinical trials in 2021

Developed since “Four or five years” by the Californian teams of doctor Sam Eletr, the project is now at the stage of industrial pre-series. Tests have already been conducted on healthy volunteers. Two clinical studies, already submitted to the ANSM, are due to be concluded in 2021. Obtaining CE marking is expected within twelve to eighteen months. About ten people should be hired by this deadline.

One of the two clinical studies concerns patients coming out of an operation, and the other, people who have been in intensive care for which the company has obtained a participation from the Defense Innovation Agency of the Ministry of the Armed Forces. , relating to the fight against Covid-19. The amount remains confidential.

RDS was created specifically in Strasbourg to implement this phase of its patch project there, because the medical environment of the Alsatian capital is renowned internationally. “Finding an ecosystem like this does not run the streets”, says Elie Lobel. It must be said that the initiator of the project, Sam Eletr, knows Strasbourg well, where he notably chaired the biotech Domain Therapeutics.
