Union stays with Europe
RB Leipzig closed the worst first half of their first division history with another disappointment. The team of the new coach Domenico Tedesco lost against promoted Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday with 0: 2 (0: 0), bringing it to half-time in the Bundesliga to 22 points and thus to six points less than 2017/18 under Ralph Hasenhüttl.
Janni Serra (57th minute) and Masaya Okugawa (75th) ensured with their goals that Tedesco experienced the first defeat in the third assignment as Leipzig coach. Bielefeld had to end the game after a red card against Fabian Klos (70th) outnumbered.
Frankfurt takes 6th win in 7th game: only FC Bayern have the same number of points since then
Eintracht Frankfurt has continued its streak of success and is going into the short winter break as the team of the hour. The Hessians won the Rhein-Main-Derby against FSV Mainz 05 with 1-0 (1-0) on Saturday and after 17 matchdays they occupy a place in the European Cup despite serious difficulties at the start. Newcomer Jesper Lindström scored the decisive goal for the Europa League round of 16 from Frankfurt in the 35th minute in front of 15,000 approved spectators.
Since the two rivals were equal on points before the direct clash, Eintracht also passed the Mainz team. The team of coach Oliver Glasner, who was still heavily criticized in October, has now won six of the last seven Bundesliga games and, after a short break over the turn of the year, will start into the year 2022 with a lot of self-confidence – since the beginning of November only FC Bayern has had because of the goal difference to show a better record.
Union Berlin keeps up with Europe: Max Kruse scores the winning goal
Max Kruse helped Union Berlin get back on the road to success. After his team’s last two games without a win or a goal, the veteran (16), who had returned to the starting line-up two days earlier despite his wedding, scored the goal of the day at 1-0 (1-0) at VfL Bochum. Thanks to their second away win, the Berlin team improved to sixth place.

In contrast, promoted Bochum increasingly ran out of breath towards the end of the first half of the season. For the third time in a row, coach Thomas Reis’s team remained without a win. Last minute compensation for TSG Hoffenheim: Gladbach gambled away victory
Borussia Mönchengladbach stopped its negative run, but awarded the victory at TSG Hoffenheim in stoppage time. Adi Hütter’s team conceded the late 1-1 (1-0) on Saturday after four defeats in a row.
In Sinsheim, Breel Embolo used a corner for the Gladbach lead in an entertaining game with numerous scoring chances (35th minute). Kevin Akpoguma scored 1: 1 in stoppage time (90th + 1). For the foals it was the first point win in almost a month at the end of the year. TSG remains fourth for the time being.
Relegation battle without goals: FC Augsburg and Greuther Fürth part ways
SpVgg Greuther Fürth prevented the next negative mark in a very poor Bayern duel against FC Augsburg. With the goalless draw on Saturday at the end of the first half of the season, the climber from Franconia just turned away the setting of the disaster balance of Tasmania Berlin from the 1965/66 season.
The capitals had finished their embarrassing streak back then with only one win and only one draw in 15 defeats. The Fürth, who have long since been beaten in the table, have won 17 games and now have drawn two. In the terrifyingly uneventful game, Augsburg won their 18th point of the season.
