Rare Nintendo PlayStation auctioned: $ 360,000

It is one of the few copies made from the game console. Sony and Nintendo worked together on the device, which eventually never came on the market: Sony decided to make its own game console and Nintendo continued on its own.

That makes the game computer a special piece of game history. With the collaboration suddenly became the biggest competitor of Nintendo, which still holds a huge market share today.

The buyer offered $ 300,000, but on top of that $ 60,000 in auction costs is charged. It is not yet known who exactly acquired the console.

Foreclosure Auction

The prototype was once owned by former Sony Computer Entertainment boss Olaf Olafsson, until he was bought by Terry Diebold at a foreclosure auction. He then only paid $ 75 for the device. The prototype ended up in the attic until his son discovered what he was worth.

The father and son were still trying to visit trade fairs with the game console for demonstrations, but in this way were unable to earn enough from it. It was therefore decided to sell it through an auction. Even Oculus founder Palmer Luckey made an offer.

1.2 million dollars

With $ 360,000, the Nintendo PlayStation is perhaps the most valuable game console in the world. Yet Diebold probably hoped for an even higher amount: somebody once offered 1.2 million dollars for the console, but he did not agree with that at the time.
